We are so happy to have been part of Christina & Tom’s wedding in Jacksonville Fl. They are such a beautiful and friendly couple!!! I haven’t met Tom before the wedding because he arrived from London only few days before it. Christina and Tom’s met in London when Christina was working there as a dancer and they plan to leave there as soon as Christina gets the papers. Both of them wanted a very journalistic style of photography and Tom’s as European did not want us to be too intrusive. It was easy for me to understand his feelings and the style they wanted because I am from Europe too!! I am from Switzerland…. not far from London at all!! They shared the responsibility: Christina was in charge of organizing their wedding in Jacksonville and Tom was responsible to organize their house London. I haven’t seen Christina yet because she is still in London so I don’t know if Tom did a good job with his part but for sure Christina did an amazing on with hers! The wedding she organized was beautiful!!!!

Nobody would explain better than Christina their story! Here is  of how they met and felt in love (written by Christina):

Set the Scene:

When: mid-June 2011
where: 3 Mills movie Set, London, England
why: in production for the new premiere of “Can We Alk About This?”
who: DV8 Physical Theatre
what: the first time we met

Tom and Christina met while doing what they both do best. Tom with a saw in his hand, working hard on a piece of scenery and Christina with a leg in the air and a marker in her hand practicing how to speak, dance and write on her body all at the same time. It was production week, and they were both working hard on DV8 Physical Theater’s new piece called “Can We Talk About This?” in London, England. At the time, Christina resided in a neighborhood of London called Brixton. She really loved Brixton as it reminded her fondly of her time living in Brooklyn yet unfortunately she didn’t know anyone else who lived close to her from the company. Then one day, Adam the sound man for the show mentioned his friend Tom who happened to live in Brixton. She hadn’t thought much of it at the time but on Day 1 of production week she was introduced to this Tom and subsequently started to hear his name attached to a lot of nice comments from other who knew him from prior tours with DV8. As production week progressed she learned a little more about this Tom fellow. 1. He was a cycler 2. he really loved old school music and 3. he seemed like a fun and happy person to be around and 4 had beautiful blue eyes and a great smile. All enough info to get her mind peeked with interest. So As theater productions tend to go, actors dancers and the like get very close and bond quickly in a short amount of time. 2 1/2 weeks on we had survived production week by the skin of our teeth and it was time to break down the set(Tom’s job), pack our bags and get the production up and running in Stockholm; our first stop for previews of the new piece. What I still didn’t know that I was soon to find out was the closeness in which the company and crew interacted. There was no separation, we all worked for DV8 and partys and events were for all involved. An awesome realization. So after another long week of working on stage and getting even more kinks out, all ready for a night out and a day off. So the next thing we know a local is taking some of the company to a dance club on a huge docked boat. (I think this is a European thing). Somehow Tom and Christina found themselves alone on the crowed dance floor and the next she knew she was witnessing the Brixton Love Dance, a dance unknown to her until that special moment. She didnt know what hit her, the next thing she knew she was engulfed with the urge to get closer and well the rest is history……….For a year Tom and Christina were lucky enough to tour the world together as there love grew. Paris helped, there time in Italy was breathtaking and it just kept getting better. Their love continues to grow despite less exotic locations over the past year as Tom found himself many times in Jacksonville Florida visiting his long distance love over the past year. They endured and they are happy to finally be together at last.

I want to take a moment to explain why bridal pictures at the studio are so important.

Let’s take as example Eva’s pictures that you can discover below. Eva booked her wedding at a Bridal Show at the University of North Florida (UNF) and one of my gifts was a Bridal Session. She directly said that she wanted to keep it even if her fiance, Abdoul, was thinking about switching it for one more hour of wedding day coverage. She said that she wanted to have beautiful pictures of herself with her dress and that it was her gift. Abdoul agreed and we kept one hour for a session at our photography studio downtown Jacksonville.

One week before the session, Eva called me to ask if it was possible to have two outfits during the session. I agreed but was surprised because she never talked about having two dresses. A Saturday morning two weeks before the ceremony,  Eva arrived with her friend and Abdoul’s mother at the studio. She had a dress in a plastic but I couldn’t see a second one. I finally asked her and she explained that Abdoul’s mom wanted them to wear an African wedding outfit for the second part of the reception and that she wanted to take bridal pictures with this outfit too. Abdoul is from Ivory Coast and his mother came to the United States with typical African’s wedding attires. Abdoul’s mother explained me that it will not be the same outfit as the wedding day because it would be too long to change to the typical outfit during the reception. She took two different outfit for Eva. The one we would take pictures of was to be wear with painted tattoos that represent a lace shirt. The second one, the wedding day one was easier to put and did not necessitate many tattoos. The bridal session was a dream and we got many amazing pictures. I am so happy that we got those pictures because the day of Eva and Abdoul’s wedding they got late on the schedule and we did not have time for bridal photos. Eva put her dress five minutes before the ceremony. I wasn’t worried at all because I know that we already got all the pictures we needed.

It is so important for a bride, her fiance and their families to have amazing bridal pictures of her in her wedding dress and often during the wedding day the timeline gets a little bit late and we do not have enough time to create as many bridal pictures as we wish. During a studio session, we have plenty of time. The second important point is the light. In our photography studio downtown Jacksonville, we have total control over the light, backdrop, pose, … and we create beautiful pictures that the couples and their families will cherish forever.

Ninekema called me last week to have some portraits of herself done with a few different outfits. She always takes the time to have some professional portrait done around her birthday; It’s her birthday gift for herself. We decided this time that the studio would be the best place to start because it was in the middle of the afternoon and the sun was too shiny and bright at that time. More then everything we also wanted to have a perfect control over the lights and create beautiful portraits of her.

We started the session with the old french style sofa that we have but quickly decided to move toward the seamless paper in order to achieve a more fashion look. Ninekema’s personality is full of energy and life and we decided that the colorful backdrop was the best match for her. Ninekema took three different type of clothes with her and we had fun modifying the color of the backdrop depending on her style and color.

I particularly like the brown that we were able to create that matches and complemented her leopard style outfit so nicely.  For this outfit we thought that going outside would add some colorful and urban style pictures to her portfolio. We decided to walk around the studio and we found perfect locations just around the corner. The decoration that were put up for “one spark 2013” (here is the link to their website: http://www.beonespark.com/) made perfect backdrops. We started with the forest just on the left of our building and kept going through the different walls. We also discover that a new whisky lounge was about to open right around the corner of our studio!

CJ is a beautiful service dog. I have become good friends with her parents over the past year. I met them for the first time last year at Bark Boutique, 1021 Park Street in Jacksonville. Bark is a beautiful boutique in Riverside Jacksonville. You can find everything you need for your dogs like collars, leashes, beds, shampoos, and more. They even have homemade birthday cakes for your furry friends! Bark also has a boarding area and a grooming service.  I was there last fall every afternoon taking pictures of the dogs after they were groomed.

The first time I met CJ was after she got a shower and was looking all clean and pretty. I was impressed because CJ would obey all my orders and would stay very calm during the session. After the pictures, I learned that she was a service dog and had been trained to help her father who had been in an accident the year before. CJ is able to push the buttons on the elevator, take objects from the floor, alert her mom if anything is happening to her dad, and much more.

I finally met her parents when they came to get a family picture with Santa during the Christmas mini sessions. CJ’s father was still in bad shape and barely made it to the picture session.  They later contacted me and asked me to take pictures of CJ with different outfits because they wanted a calendar for their apartment. I had so much fun with CJ! She was up to do everything and never got annoyed even when I changed her clothes and props more than 20 times. We got amazing pictures and finally decided that a book for their coffee table would show off more pictures than a calendar. I was able to deliver the book this week and I couldn’t be happier with the final result. I even created a calendar for them as a surprise!

I am happy to say that CJ’s father is much better and has almost recovered from the accident! I am so happy for them!

I was so happy to take family pictures of my God-Mother Michele, her son and his family while I was in Switzerland last May. Since I moved to the United States 7 years ago we have been in touch through social media (thanks to WhatsApp for giving me the opportunity to stay close and share small facts of my life!!). Michele and I have seen each other a few times, but I had not seen Julien for years. I was glad I finally had the opportunity to meet the new addition to his family and his wife; I had a wedding to cover in Jacksonville the day of their wedding and sadly, I couldn’t make it. They invited me to their new house close by the lake of Geneva and cooked the best dish ever for a Swiss girl leaving abroad: a raclette! It’s cheese that you cut in fine slices and it’s melted right in front of you in the middle of the table. You usually put the melted cheese on top of small potatoes. It’s delicious!

Michele, my God-Mother was a close friend of my mother and after divorcing from my uncle she stayed very close to me. Julien was born when I was approximately 12 years old; I still remember my first reaction when Michele told me that she was pregnant. I was jealous because I wouldn’t be the only child in her life anymore!!! I remember Julien always being nice and calm as a child. I wasn’t surprised that he is still acts the same, even after becoming an adult and a father.

After eating, we decided that it was time for pictures, but because the weather wasn’t that great (it was cold and raining) we thought that the sofa would be our best option. My God-Mother who is also a very talented photographer brought bubbles so we could get Nathan’s attention. We were fascinated by them and were able to get some great shots!

I want to share with you some pictures of this session but also some older pictures of my God-Mother and me at one of my sister’s birthday in my grandparent’s house. I love them so much and miss them a lot, but I am glad that we are able to stay in touch and see each other from time to time!!!
