I remember when I met few weeks before the wedding with Britney and Dane that we talked about a back-up plan if it would rain on their Club Continental Wedding. Britney answered that raining on the wedding day was a sign of a happy happy life together! She had the same positive attitude on their wedding day and the day was absolutely perfect. It was one of the friendliest wedding I have never been! And it didn’t rain during the ceremony or the photographs 🙂

Britney wrote about how they met: “It all started in the Spring of 2006 while attending Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia. Dane played left tackle for the football team and Britney swam for the swim team. GO EALGES! Britney and Dane met through mutual friends, and during a night out, Britney and Dane realized that they were in the same class together. The following Monday, Britney changed seats to sit next to Dane. During this class, they became great friends – and little did they know what would soon flourish. Due to their competitive nature, Britney and Dane would race to grab the student paper and compete to finish the word search before class. Britney would usually win the word search – just don’t tell Dane.

In the Summer of 2006, Britney and Dane started to date. Britney graduated in the Fall of 2008 with Bachelor’s degree in Justice Studies, and moved back to her home in Cumming, Georgia. Dane graduated in the Spring of 2009 with a Masters in Public Administration and moved back home to Jacksonville, Florida. Britney and Dane continued to have a long distance relationship until Britney moved to Jacksonville, Florida to be with Dane while he attended Florida Coastal School of Law.

Needless to say, it was worth the risk as Dane proposed to Britney on her 27th birthday. Dane put a considerable amount of thought into this ring because it is comprised of seven diamonds – one diamond for each year they had been together. All together now – awwwwww. ”

I totally understand that choosing your wedding photographer is a very difficult task. The relationship that you have with your photographer is among the most important of all your wedding vendors. Your photographer will be with you on your wedding day from the beginning of the day with the make-up until your exit (most of the time the photographer will leave after you 🙂 Your wedding photographer is also very important because he/she is creating physical memories of the day. You look amazing in your dress but without your photographs you will not remember exactly how pretty your were;  the flowers are gorgeous but without your photographer you will not keep a clear memory of them,…

The question is how to choose the right photographer? I decided that I would share my thoughts on how to choose your photographer and what question is the most important to ask during your first meeting.

I narrowed it down to five different topics that are the most important for me:

1) Ask to see two or three full galleries of recent weddings that the photographer covered. Ask to see something similar to yours. If you are having a church ceremony and a reception inside, ask to see some examples of those. If you are having a ceremony at the beach and the reception in a backyard ask for those. Looking through the galleries will give you an idea of the style of the photographer but will also show you how he/she handles the lighting situation. Some photographers are extremely good with daily light and you have seen beautiful images in their website but if your wedding is in a church late afternoon in Winter you want to be sure that the images keep the same quality that you like. Looking through those galleries also give you a good idea of the amount of pictures that you will be receiving.

2) Ask the back up plans. I mean does the photographer has a second camera if the first one doesn’t work. Does the second shooter has a second one? What happens if the photographer is sick on the wedding day? How the photographs are saved and backed up after the wedding and when? I have heard so many stories of photographers having their gears stolen with the memories cards 🙁  Your photographs should always be saved in at least two different locations so if anything happens your photographer still have a copy of your photographs. It is also very important that your photographer has a back up for everything. I don’t mean only the camera but also flashes, lenses, lights,… what would happen if your photographer has only one flash and it doesn’t work in the middle of the reception?

3) Ask the photographer who will be your photographer on the wedding day. Ideally, you would like to meet with the photographer that will be with you on your wedding day. What happens if you meet with somebody you like but on your wedding day your photographer is a different one and you don’t feel spending your day with him or her? Meet with the photographer that will be with you on your wedding day before signing the contract.

4) Ask for the deadlines. Will you receive a sneak peek the same week-end to share with friends and family? When your full gallery will be available? When your album (if included) will be delivered? I remembered that after my wedding my photographer asked me if I wanted a few sneak peeks to share with my family and my first answer was “no, I can wait for the full galleries”. Few hours later, I changed my mind and emailed him that I wanted a sneak peek; I was so excited to share a picture with my friends that couldn’t be there! Deadlines can be very different from one photographer to another one; knowing them before signing your contract is important because you need to decide if you are ok to wait or not. If your photographer has a six months deadline to deliver the full gallery you may not see any of your wedding photographers before six months… so be sure you are ok with it before signing!

5) Ask your photographer how to communicate with him/her. Is it by text messages? Emails? Faceboook messengers? Phone calls? What is his/her timeframe to answer? Who will answer your questions? If your questions are answered by an office manager, be sure that he/she communicates with your photographer. If you are somebody that needs an answer right away and can’t keep calm until you get one you want to be sure that your photographer will have a 24 hours of less policy to answer his/her messages. You don’t want to add stress on you. Don’t forget that communication is key on organization!

Let me know if there is anything that I am missing! I would love your opinion!

Christina & David St Ephrem Syriac wedding was beautiful! It was the first time that Katrina and I were photographing a wedding with Vietnamese tradition and we loved it!

I found it similar to the wedding I covered last summer in Japan. The tradition to introduce the main guests by a short speech about them at the beginning of the reception and the fact to go from one table to another to thanks guests for coming and to have some time to talk with each of them was similar. However, the picture that Christina & David took with each guest when they were entering the reception was something that I had never done. The arch with flowers was beautiful and was a perfect backdrop for those photographs.

Something entirely new for me was the collaboration with a team that had a drone! It was fun to see it flying on top of our heads during the couple and bridal party photographs! I can’t wait to see those videos!

As Christina & David had the tea ceremony in the morning, we scheduled 2 hours in the afternoon for couple and bridal party photographs. That was a perfect setting! We had time for a first look followed by amazing photographs! It’s such a pleasure to create memories for such a nice couple!

I first met Melba to talk about her wedding that was happening in 2015. We talk a long time at the studio and we share her wedding plans. She called me few weeks later asking me if I was available on December12 and if I could be their Jacksonville wedding photographer. Melba and Bryan decided to get married this year and 3 weeks later! I was really happy to be available and share this special time with them.

We met at the Clerks of court in Atlantic Beach at 2pm and got lucky that not too many people were inside at that time. They had lots of people from their family and it was full of joy and happiness. I didn’t know that they re-did the decoration and have a sunset picture on the back of the wedding space. In the past it was a more beach scene with a net and some shells.

Melba’s son was in charge of the wedding rings and he did an awesome job! After the ceremony we decided to stop by Castaway to take some couple and family pictures. We got lucky as the weather was perfect! We then met up with the family and guests at Maggiano’s for the formal pictures. The Christmas tree that was in front of Maggiano’s was a perfect backdrop for our pictures!

Luchy & Dayron’s Casa Marina wedding was gorgeous. Luchy got ready in a beautiful room in the first floor at Casa Marina in Jacksonville with her bridesmaids and immediate family. Then, we all took a white limousine to the church (that was the longest limousine I have ever seen!). The ceremony was at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Old Saint Augustine Road. I had never been in St.Joseph before and I am impressed. It’s a wonderful church with an impressive ceiling and beautiful light coming in.

The reception was at Casa Marina. Luchy & Dayron were so lucky because that Saturday was the first day of the week that we saw the sun; it has been foggy all week! Dayron had a surprise for Luchy. A very special choreographic dance that he performed with two of his groomsmen. You can see on the pictures how good they were!

The decoration was gorgeous, Rachael Kasie Designs did such an amazing job! I love the elegant grey and white cake designed by Design Indulgences. It matches perfectly the overall decoration and it was delicious!
