As some of you know I am traveling this week to a wedding in Venice Italy for a wedding workshop. What is a wedding workshop? It’s a real wedding that open their wedding to photographers to learn. The main photographer of this workshop is Yervant (here is his website http://www.yervantphotography.com). Yervant has won multiple awards for his wedding photography work and he is world known. He is based in Australia.

When I saw that he will have a wedding workshop in Venice Italy I didn’t hesitate too long. It’s an amazing experience for me to be able to learn from somebody famous like him but also to be able to ask questions and interact directly with him. The workshop is one week long so we have plenty of time. The second thing that made me decide is the fact that I will have beautiful pictures of a bride in Venice! The dream!!!

I will try to keep you posted day by day so I am sure to do it… but don’t hesitate to follow me in Instagram HERE as I post pictures all day long 🙂

First problem was how to pack… I know Venice and I know that there are no cars, the roads have pavers and it’s full of bridges so my only option is a backpack for my camera and my lenses. I finally bought one that wasn’t too big so I could take it in the plane but big enough to hold my Nikon D4 and 3 lenses. It’s a Lowepro 350AW for those who wants to know 🙂 I know that Europe in October can be tricky. It can be cold as it can be warm. I decided to take some sweaters and my leather vest but also a good rain protection so whatever happens I should be fine. And for sure it was a rainy-windy typical autumn weather in Venice when I arrived today. If you have been in Europe at the period you know what I mean 🙁 I will make you laugh but when I travel for work I like to get my clothes ready for each day. It just makes my life easier if I don’t have to ask every morning what I will put. I also needed good shoes as we will walk a lot!

I was flying Jacksonville to Atlanta to Paris Charles-de-Gaulles to Venice. And as usual while I am traveling it didn’t work as planned… the plane was late in Atlanta so I missed the connection in Paris. Thankfully they booked me in the next one and I was able to meet the group for the afternoon. We learned lots of good tips by Anie (Yervant’s wife) this afternoon and I can’t wait to introduce some in my business model!

I am too tired tonight to really play with my camera (I haven’t slept in 36 hours now…) but I walked to San Marco and took a long exposure for you!

I decided to take my 85mm (the lens I use 80% of the time…), my 35mm and a wide angle (14-24mm) as I know it’s Yervant’ specialty, wedding workshop in Venice,, Italy

Hello everybody, this month for the Downtown Jacksonville October Art Walk we will be displaying a collection of Lurah Patrick’s sculptures at Severine Photography Studios. We have worked to provide her with copy work of her beautiful stone sculptures in the past and are thrilled to have some of her work on display in the studio. We are located on the 8th floor in the Jacksonville Bank Building at the corner of North Laura and Forsyth in downtown Jacksonville and will have the studio open from 5pm to 9pm during art walk. Come check out the amazing sculptures and have some fun playing in our free digital photo booth.

To learn more about Lurah and her work read her short bio that she provided to us:

“Lurah Patrick was born in Germany and spent her childhood living and travelling throughout Europe.  It is there she developed a deep love and appreciation for art and history.  Traditional methods of stone carving are her inspiration as she seeks to combine old world craftsmanship with more contemporary themes in her work.

Lurah has studied with several stone carving masters but has been particularly influenced by the Argentinean sculptor Chiche Scaglia-Davis.  Exploration of the feminine aspects of nature is strongly felt in her work.

When not creating sculpture, Lurah is a real estate professional with Watson Realty Corp. in Ponte Vedra Beach. Having lived in the area for 20 years she loves helping buyers and sellers achieve their dreams whether finding their dream home or reaching their investment goals.”

Sara and Brandon’s wedding in Amelia Island was beautiful. Sara got ready at her grand-parents’ house lovely house. The weather was crazy it would rain a little on an off all day, we just had time during one of the sunny moments to take some pictures of her dress outside before it started to rain again. Thankfully it rained only until the ceremony finished what was perfect! Plus we were lucky and got an amazing sunset that night!

Here is their story written by Sara:

The first time we met, it was sort of a blind date. As soon as I saw him, I couldn’t stop smiling. He has these dimples that make his smile shine. After we finished eating dinner we stood outside and talked for a very long time. He sent me a text message on the way home asking to meet up the next day. And we did. From that moment on we were, at the very least, best friends. We saw eachother almost every day after that. After two weeks he met my parents and my siblings. A month after meeting, we had a barbecue at his house. We were all eating by candle light outside under the stars. I saw him look at me from across the table and smile. That was the moment I knew I loved him. He asked me to come sit on his lap and he asked me to be his girlfriend. Fast forward almost 4 years later. We had my sister and her husband over for dinner. After many drinks and stories exchanged, he let it slip that he planned on proposing to me on our next vacation. Later that night, he smiled at me the same way he did that first night, and asked me if I would marry him. Of course, in between happy sobs, I said yes!!!

Jill & John maternity photos were originally schedule for this week as Jonas due date was October 10, but Jill called me beginning of last week saying that they weren’t sure that Jonas would wait that long and it would be better to do one session at the beach now and maybe a second one in studio. We decided for Tuesday as Jill’s was working all the other day this week. Yes even few days before Jonas’s due date! She is a trooper! Finally we were so right to do the session because Jonas decided to come last Friday!!! The session was only 3 days before his birth!

We decided that Jill & John maternity photos would be the best at Jacksonville Beach as they live only two blocks from the beach and also because Jonas’s room has a nautical theme. The weather wasn’t great at all and it rained most of the day. Thankfully around 4pm the rain stoped and a very strong wind kept the clouds north of our location so we had time for few pictures at the beach. That was without thinking that maternity photos with two dogs super happy to run around in the waves may not be as fast as it would be with only two people 🙂 We got very lucky and it didn’t rain at all. I love those pictures because they are so natural; they show you who Jill & John are as people and how important nature is for them. They never complain that it was too windy; they just went with it and loved the natural look of it.

The second part of the pictures were done ‘in secret”. I mean that they didn’t know about those pictures because I did them while they were both at the hospital waiting on Jonas! I was dog sitting Tonka and Jenga and I thought that it would be nice to have few pictures of them announcing their younger brother 🙂

It was such a pleasure to meet Makenzie at our studio last week for her newborn photography session. She was eight days old and already so pretty! Her parents will have lots of trouble with her later 🙂

I was also really happy to meet finally Makenzie’s parents, Ashley and Joey. I have heard a lot about them as Ashley is the boss of one of my very good friend. I knew for example that she is as addict as I am with Ikea… well… maybe not that much but still. She took multiple trips to Ikea with only one person to help her and would drive back with a truck full of shelves of white square that they built during countless hours day and night during the week-end! I took the idea for our desk at our studio downtown (see here a sneak peak) from their office. Thank you for the idea!

For Makenzie newborn photography session I decided to create some settings with golf as theme, I know that both her parents love it. We also made a setting with the Jaguars as a theme, since my friend told me that they were fans!
