A few weeks ago we had a the cutest little almost one year old come downtown to the studio just before his birthday for a smash the cake photo session with his mother. Alpha Kinsey was a great little toddler he had so much fun running around the studio. Our box with photo booth props were great tools to get his attention and to make him smile, although they did make good weapons to hit Severine and the camera with. He had so much energy, it wore me out keeping him occupied during the shoot.  We have been taking pictures of this little guy since he was 2 months old and he is turning into a handsome little boy.

When it got time to smash the cake, it made little Alpha Kinsey quite confused. It was his first time having cake and wasn’t really sure what it was. When we sat the cake on the ground in front of him he just sort of looked at it, not knowing how delicious the colorful object placed at his feet was. Soon his curiosity took over and he jabbed his little hand into the cake to closer examine this new object. We saw his face light up as he put his fingers in his mouth to taste the frosting covering his fingers. Now knowing what a treasure he had in his lap he started to dig in and grab little chunks of cake. Soon cake was everywhere, it covered his hands, shorts, shoes, and the floor of the studio.

It was so much fun watching the little guy discover how good birthday cake is! We want to thank Pilart Cakes for making such a beautiful cake for Alpha Kinsey to destroy and enjoy.

We are happy announce that Severine Photography will be a vendor as well as an event photographer for the upcoming Jacksonville Brides Against Breast Cancer event. At this event they have hundreds of slightly wore wedding dresses that have been donated by designers, manufactures, bridal shops, and individuals worldwide. Brides Against Breast Cancer  uses the money from the sale of these dresses to provide wellness and educational services to those affected by breast cancer. If you are getting married soon or are a photographer wanting to buy a gown for a style shoot this would be the perfect way to save yourself a little bit of money while at the same time helping out a great cause. All of us at the Severine Photography studio have lost people we loved to cancer. Dan lost his mom when she was only 32 to lung cancer leaving behind three kids and a husband. Severine also lost her parents to cancer as well. She lost two grand-mothers to breast cancer and her mom to lung cancer.  It is important of us to help the fight against cancer. Cancer is a horrible disease and it affects so many families this is why we volunteered for this event, if we can help spread the word about Brides Against Breast Cancer and get more people to the show, they will raise more money to help fight cancer.

The Brides Against Breast Cancer event and bridal show will be happing at the Sheraton of Jacksonville located at 10605 Deerwood Park BLVD, during the weekend 0f July 27th and 28th. So come on down and search for your perfect dress, or just come down to support the fight against cancer. Either way it’s for a great cause and we hope to see many people at the event.

Last month we had the honor of photographing Aquilla and Lamonte’s wonderful wedding day. They got married at Queen’s Harbour Yacht and Country Club in Jacksonville Florida. It is a wonderful place to get married. The location is beautiful, the club house sits right next to the golf course and has a little bridge heading to a little island where the golfers tee off which was perfect for picture taking. There was also nice big oak trees providing shade over the ceremony location. The staff and coordinator were super friendly and helpful they were always happy to answer any questions we had. Aquilla and Lamonte’s beautiful Queen’s Harbour wedding was nothing but a success The weather was perfect for the ceremony. It seemed light it might rain all day but all the storms cleared up just in time for their outdoor ceremony. The clouds actually helped keep the temperature down making it much more comfortable for their friends and family to enjoy the couple’s big day.

Lamonte and Aquilla were a fantastic couple to work with. They meet back in high school and have been in love ever since. Their ceremony was beautiful and went perfectly. During the cocktail hour we found a few minutes to take the bride and groom away from their guests to get some great couple shots. It is always a pleasure when we get a few minutes alone with a newly wed couple, they are always so happy and excited that it is easy to get amazing photos of them together. Aquilla and Lamonte

To top off the evening they arranged to have a horse and carriage come take them for a ride. They had their guest line up with sparklers and create a sparking archway to the carriage. When they came back from the ride they went inside to their reception and had a great time dancing the night away. It was an excellent day, the couple was awesome. The venue was amazing. The cake by Divine Indulgences was gorgeous, and the DJ Scott Murphy of the Party Express was great. We had a great time and congratulations again to Aquilla and Lamonte we know you’ll keep each other happy for many years to come.

This morning I just to share a quick tutorial on how to straighten in Lightroom. How many of us had already come back from the beach with hundreds of pictures with the horizon crooked and it doesn’t look good at all?

With Lightroom, it’s an easy fix that will take you just few seconds of your workflow.

Open your pictures in Lightroom.

How to straighten in LightroomClick on the picture you want to start with then click on the “Develop” module How to straighten in Lightroom

You are able to decide on what you want to straighten your picture. In this example I decided to choose the border of the wall but I could have chosen the line between the grass and treesHow to straighten in Lightroom

Click on the crop tool (the one that looks like a small grid) then click on angle. Your mouse will look like a short straighten ruler. How to straighten in Lightroom

Click on one side of the line you want to follow (the wall in my example) then click on the other side keeping the right click. Release your mouse; your picture will by magically be straight! How to straighten in Lightroom

If you have many pictures with the same angle you can copy the straightened setting.

Go back to the Library module. Select the picture you just did and the ones you want to do. Click on “Sync Settings”. Mark only the “straighten angle” then click synchronizeHow to straighten in Lightroom

That’s it! How to straighten in Lightroom

For Kristina and Matthew’s engagement session we decided that the University of North Florida (UNF) in Jacksonville would be the best background. We started by the nature trails and the beautiful lake. I remember that there used to be an alligator in this lake but we couldn’t find it. We saw multiple turtles and fishes but no alligator. During our walk, we also discover the new rope course. None of us had seen them before because we all graduated before they finished to install them. Kristina knew the project very well because she was part of Student Government when they started the construction. To tell you the truth, I am not the one who would try it; it’s far to high for me, lol!

For the second part of the session we decide to walk around the main campus. It was super fun to challenge each other to figure out locations that the other ones wouldn’t have thought about. It’s very different to scout for a location than simply walking from class to class! We were lucky to find small field of flowers that we weren’t expected and that provided perfect background for romantic pictures 🙂

Both Kristina and Matthew graduated from the Coggin College, which is the business college at UNF. The Coggin College has been nominated as outstanding business college by the Princeton review for the last 6 years! Way to go UNF! I cannot forget to talk about the giant duck! During our walk we discover a giant yellow duck on the lake in front of the library! So fun! I think it has been designed and built by the sculpture class during the last semester. Look at the picture, it’s so cool!

We got very lucky with the weather because it only rained few drops on us and we could finish our campus tour without getting wet 🙂

Kristina and Matthew’s wedding is in December at the White Room in St. Augustine. I can’t think of a better location with all the Christmas lights that are on during that time of the year. Kristina told me that we may even see the boat parade from the roof during the wedding!
